    Clove for toothache

丁字の実はちょうど「丁」の形をしている。スパイスとしてはクローブの名でカレーとかに入れられる。この丁字の乾燥した実をホールのままで2年前くらいに購入した、まだだいぶ残っていて量が多すぎたと思っていた。

The fruit of Ding is shaped just like a "Ding" (丁). As a spice, it is used in curries and other dishes under the name of clove. I bought whole dried cloves about two years ago, and I thought I had too much left.



最近、趾や足の神経が痛む上に、さらに歯痛まで重なった。地獄のなんとかやらだ。神も仏もない。が、丁字が救ってくれた。丁字が取れるインドネシアの現地の人々が歯痛の際にかじるということを思い出して、神経がむき出しになったように痛む奥歯で噛んで、寝てるときにもそのまま放っておくということを3晩繰り返したら、かなりみごとに良くなった。歯根のあたりを指圧することもしたが、神経に効いたのは丁字だろう。

I've been having a lot of nerve pain in my toes and feet lately, and now I've got a toothache to add to it. It's like something out of hell. There is no God or Buddha. But Dingji saved me. I remembered that Indonesian locals gnaw on their teeth when they have a toothache, so I chewed on my back tooth, which hurt like a bare nerve, and left it alone while I slept for three nights. I also did some acupressure around the root of the tooth, but I think it was the Ding ji that worked on the nerve.



正露丸も歯痛に効くらしいが、丁字は入っていない。正露丸は樹木のタールからエキスを取って薬にしているらしい。タールなのでイメージが悪いけど、イメージを気にしない人には正露丸も良いものだろう。

Seirogan is also said to be effective for toothache, but it does not contain Dinggeng. Seirogan is said to be made by extracting tar from trees. The tar gives it a bad image, but for those who do not care about the image, Seirogan also is probably a good choice.

    Hemorrhoids


痔はだれにも起こり得るふつうの病気で、膨れるか切れるかうむかのどれかになるが、膨れるのが最も多いようだ。何が膨れるかというと、あたりの静脈の叢（そう）の血管が膨れる。原因は血流の停滞。切れるのは、血管というよりもあたりの皮膚が物理的に切れて出血する。うむのは経験がないが、細菌感染の感染症でうむ。

Hemorrhoids are a common condition that can occur to anyone and can be either swollen, cut or having a pus, but swelling seems to be the most common. What swells is a part of the blood vessel in the plexus of veins around the area. The cause is stagnation of blood flow. The cut is caused by a physical break in the skin rather than a blood vessel, which results in bleeding. Abscesses are caused by bacterial infections, although I have no experience with them.


皮膚が切れた場合、血流が停滞した場合、経験上オロナインが効いた。重症の膨れはボラギノールの座薬が効いた。

In case of the skin cut or blood flow stagnance, Oronine worked in my experience. For severe swelling, a suppository of Boraginol helped.


1年あまり前の入院前に最悪の尿閉になったのは、痔が原因だったと思っている。肛門と膀胱は案外連動するような気がする。前者が機能不全に陥ると後者にも影響が及ぶように思われる。たぶん痔の膨れにより、あたりの神経が圧迫され、門戸を開けという司令が脳に届かなくなったのではないか、と考えている。あのときもっとじたばたしてみたほうがよかったのじゃないか、という思いもある。

I believe my worst urinary retention before my hospitalization a little over a year ago was due to hemorrhoids. I feel that the anus and the bladder are more interlocked than one might think. If the former is dysfunctional, the latter seems to be affected as well. I am thinking that the swelling of the hemorrhoids may have compressed the nerves in the area, preventing the command to open the gate from reaching the brain. I also wonder if I should have tried to do more at that time.

 

痔の対策は定期的にやっておいたほうが身のためになる。

    Tinea capitis



2024年に前立腺膿瘍という感染症で入院した。患部の膿瘍を消滅させるため、最初は抗生剤を点滴され、点滴の針の痛さも知った。後半には点滴に繋がれるのはなくなり、抗生剤の投与を受けた。おかげで、膿瘍は結構早く消えてくれた。

In 2024, I was hospitalized with an infection called a prostate abscess. In order to make the abscess disappear, I was first given intravenous antibiotics and learned the pain of the IV needle. In the second half, I was no longer connected to the IV and was given antibiotics. Thanks to this, the abscess disappeared quite quickly.


抗生剤は当時の患者の他の疾患にも効いて、たとえば長く目やにがなかなか止まらなかったのがピタリと収まり、マイボーム腺が詰まって逆さまつ毛みたいに突き刺さってくるのもなくなり、良い副作用もいくらかあって、生活の質が向上した。

The antibiotics also helped the patient's other ailments at the time, for example, the eye discharge I had suffered for a long time suddenly stopped, and the meibomian glands were no longer clogged and sticking out like upside-down eyelashes. With some of the good side effects, my quality of life surely improved.


脚にはそのころには、軽症の静脈瘤や動脈硬化もあったが、みずむしもあった。このみずむし、足白癬の病原菌はカビの仲間で真菌と呼ばれる。抗生剤は残念ながらみずむしには効かなかった。退院後に猛威をふるわれた。

Unfortunately, antibiotics were ineffective against the fungus. After leaving the hospital, the disease raged on.


みずむしに対しては、抗真菌薬と呼ばれる軟膏や呑み薬を医師は処方する。真菌は学名（英語名）Fungi がかつてそのように訳された。真菌は微小なからだをしていて、顕微鏡でしか見えない。しかし、DNAが核膜という膜に包まれている点が細胞レベルでの話だが、ヒトと同じだ。真の菌でない大腸菌などは、膜がなくDNAがむきだしになっているそうだ。

みずむしはケラチンを「食べる」。ヒトは、精神疾患のある人を除いてケラチンは食べない。万一食べると消化されず、猫の胃の中の毛玉のように毛の玉が胃腸にできてたいへんなことになる。みずむしはというと、足などの角質に含まれるケラチンを分解して栄養源にするそうだ。もっと違うものが好きならよかったのだが。

Mizumushi "eat" keratin. Humans do not eat keratin, except for people with mental illness. If they do eat keratin, it is not digested, and a ball of hair forms in the gastrointestinal tract, like a hair ball in a cat's stomach, causing a great deal of trouble. Mizumushi, on the other hand, break down the keratin of feet and other parts of the body and use it as a source of nutrients. I wish they liked something different.
